Competition rules
1. PREAMBULA:
Between July and September 2009, RAILFILM will present the 4th international film festival for amateur railway video makers, RAILFILM 2009. The organizers of this project would like to give video makers the opportunity to present their railway and model railway films.
The preselected films will be judged by the international jury. The members of the jury will be selected by the organizers.
2. THE COMPETITION:
Railfilm organizes the yearly competition for amateur and professional filmmakers. The registration conditions are available on the www.railfilm.net web site.
The medial support for the competition is granted by:
SH Production with its www.bahnorama.tv IPTV broadcasting.
ÖBB , the Austrian Railways in its printed media
ZSR, The Slovak Railways in its printed media, Lokwelt
and other railway related media and magazines.
3. THE CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:
a.) The criteria for amateur entries. The film production was not done to earn money and the maker has no business in such field.
b.) In professional categories can enter his film anybody with professional background in such media, like cameraman, director, directors, TV studios, Production companies etc.
c.) For the members of Railfilm organisation the participation on the Railfilm contest is free of charge.
Everybody else can apply for a temporarily membership in the Railfilm organization.
Amateurs: 20.- Euro/year
Everybody else: 100.- Euro/year/film

d.) Every film must not longer than 15 minutes.
The professional films must not be older than 3 years (date of finalization) and must not be.
4. The preferred theme categories are:
BAHNDOKU:
Any kind of documentary about railways today or in past regarding technology, construction and operation.
BAHNMOVIE:
A feature film in railway environment:
BAHNKUST:
An artistic approach to railway themes.
RAILWAY & ENVIRONMENT
The relation and participation of the railways on different environmental questions.
5. THE PRIZES:
The main award for professionals:
A free usage of luxury historical coach of the ÖBB on the line Wien-Passau with basic service for company presentation or other events.
The members of jury may award another two films with prizes:
Second prize: € 500.-
Third prize: € 300.-
6. The prizes for amateur films:
First prize: A HDV Camera sponsored by SONY
Second prize: A prize of our partners
Third prize: A prize of our partners
7. Each participant will receive a certificate of their participation in the Festival.
The best 10 films will be presented on the yearly RAILFILM DVD 2009 and the authors will receive a diploma and a copy of DVD.
For all participants we prepared for reduced fee also a special historical train from Vienna to Freilassing with full day program and accommodation for the award evening in the Lokwelt museum.
8. All videos must be submitted on DVDs only (must be playable on standard desktop DVD player). The professional entries in addition of the DVD copy can be entered on any format listed on the registration form.
9. All entry forms must arrive by 14th June 2009. The entry forms should be completed and sent to the address below:

After a technical quality check, confirmation of the receipt of each video will be sent to the given address (e-mail preferred). In the event of technical difficulty, the organizers will notify the maker of the video.
Each video must be entered on a separate DVD.
10. Additional Information
a.) The language used on the video is chosen by the entrant, and is not limited by the organizers. Where there is narration or any other spoken text on the DVD, a printed copy of the text in original and in English or German, must be provided.
Alternatively, the video may include subtitles in either of these two languages.
Please include with each video two copies of the dialogue in English or German. All videos will be presented in their original language version.
b.) With each video please include a short description, in English or German, of the contents of the movie, three pictures from the video (in .jpg or .pdf formats) for advertising purposes, a short CV of the film-maker and a photo of him/her related to his/her video or railway hobby. This material will remain with the organizers.
11. Shipping:
All DVDs and supporting documents must be sent to the address above at the participant’s expense. The organizers will retain the DVDs in their archive.
12. Rights declaration
In the entry form, the organizers ask for permission for the transmission rights for a transmission (or part transmission) on any TV station for the promotion of the Festival and for transmission for public voting on IPTV channels and for the permission of the transmission for the award evenings of the best movies.
13. Claims.
Any claims must be addressed to the organizers of the festival. Legal claims are not accepted.
14. Responsibilty
The organizers have no responsibility or liability for costs associated with participation in this competition.
15. Final declaration
With completing the entry form, each participant accepts the competition rules.
