Competition rules

Proposition to the fifth international railway film contest

PREAMBULA:

The railways created the most important technical novelty in the 19th century and later became the main carrier of goods and passengers. The railways connected countries and people and opened completely new horizont for general development in both business and human sphere. The railways developed also their influence on human beings in each ages. Everybody is fascinated by the technology of the railways which over 150 years is the major carrier of progress.
 
Since the beginning the railways were also in focus of different media and the railways played  major roles in many films of different genres.
 
The international Railway Filmfestival “RAILFILM” wants to continue in this tradition and offer for producents of amateur or professional films an international platform to present their newest films related to railways.
 
In the new category for the young generation in “RAILFILM” we would like to invite kids and teens to present their own views to the railways and to support their creativity with this modern media.
 
The goal of the festival is to open the door for the new media in wider aspect.
 


THE COMPETITION:

Railfilm organizes the yearly international Filmfestival “RAILFILM” which is an open competition for amateur and professional filmmakers worldwide. The Railfilm 2010 competion Award gala will be on Oct. 2nd, 2010 in Kulturbahnhof Rennsteig, Illmenau in Germany.

The selection of the best film entries will be presented there for the public. During the event Railfilm will present the winners of Railfimt 2010 contests.

We will publish the international festival proposition in several printed media.

  1. The conditions of participation

    a.)     AMATEUR CATEGORY
    the criteria for amateur entries: The film production was not done to earn money and the maker has no business in such field.

    b.)     PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

    In professional categories can enter his film anybody with professional background in such media, like cameramen, directors, storyboard writers etc.

    c.)       JUNIOR CATEGORY

    In this category we invite all kids between 8 and 16 years of age. (Also groups are invited)   
  2. Participation fees:

    For participation we ask you to pay the following fees:
    To make the participation for children and youth easier we do no ask participation fee for this category.
     
              Amateurs:                    30.- Euro/film/year          Professionals:               200.- Euro/year/film

    The participation fee must be paid till 14th of July 2010 to the accounts:

The deadline for registration and payment is 14th of July 2010
Important:
Every film must not longer than 15 minutes. (excluding the category Bahnmovie where the max length is limited to 30 min.)

In each category we accept also animated films.
 

 

  1. Technical conditions:

    Each film must be entered separately on DVD in form of:

    Format: PAL CCIR 601 or NTSC, 4:3 or 16:9 screen format, and the DVD must be playable on standard desktop DVD players (ISO DVD).

    The reception of each entry will be confirmed by e-mail.
  2. Deadline for all entriesThe deadline for the film shipment is

    2nd of August, 2010. The films must arrive before this date.
  3. Registration and film shipment

    Each film must be registered on the www.railfilm.net WEB page, where each participant can generate his own account and register the films. When the film is successfully registered the system confirms the registration with a printable registration sheet. This document signed must be added to the film entry.

    Each video must be entered on a separate DVD.
  4. The classification of entries.The international jury will judge each entry upon the following criteria:a. Content and correspondence with the selected category.
    (Theme, Story, Content and Presentation)                           60 points

    b.
    Technical quality
    (Picture, Audio)                                                          10 points

    c. 
    Quality of Art:
    (Camera, Editing, Audio selection)                                     30 points

    The maximum is 100 points for each film.
  5. The prizes
    Railfilm will honor in each category the best films. Each honored entry will get the diploma and prizes from our sponsors.
  6. Additional Information

    The language used on the video is chosen by the entrant, and is not limited by the organizers.  Where there is narration or any other spoken text on the DVD, a printed copy of the text in original and in English or German, must be provided.  We also accept all text in electronic form (.doc, txt or pdf)
    Alternatively, the video may include subtitles in either of these two languages. 
    Please include with each video two copies of the dialogue in English or German. 
    All videos will be presented in their original language version.
  7. Shipping:

    All DVDs and supporting documents must be sent to the address above at the participant’s expense. The organizers will retain the DVDs in their archive.
 
  1. Rights declaration

    In the entry form, the organizers ask for permission for the transmission rights for a transmission (or part transmission) on any TV station for the promotion of the Festival and for transmission for public voting on IPTV channels and for the permission of the transmission for the award evenings of the best movies.
  2. Claims.

    Any claims must be addressed to the organizers of the festival.  Legal claims are not accepted.
  3. Responsibilty

    The organizers have no responsibility or liability for costs associated with participation in this competition.

    We reserve the right for mistakes and changes in rules.
  4. Final declaration

    With completing the entry form, each participant accepts the competition rules.
