Every passion has to have a scientific name on so I have invented a pseudo Greek name for a railway lover:

Philosideronomos – A lover of the Iron Way.

All of us share the excitement, the love of the aesthetic, the geological marvel, and the geographical wonder created by railways. There is also the human element and the geo-political angle that adds to the delight of having such an all embracing all consuming, pleasurable interest.

Now, we are in the 21st century. We are no longer forced to manage with still picture and static exhibits. The Video revolution has made it possible for us to record moving pictures with reasonable quality.

We have been taught by Television how it’s done. Some of us are better than others, but we all have ideas and even a simple inexpensive camera will give us a reasonable chance.

I would like to invite you, wherever you are, to look into your archives and send us your contribution. I would love to meet you all, if not in person so at least to share your railway experiences. Judging, with a panel of other philosideronomoy, will be fun.
